The Alameda County Fairgrounds has been home to the Alameda County Fair since 1912. At the fairgrounds is the Pleasanton Fairgrounds Racetrack, the oldest one-mile horseracing track in the United States. A 3,000-seat amphitheater, a 9-hole golf course and a model train exhibit are all part of the attraction. A number of annual events and trade shows in addition to the county fair take place here each year.
Annual Events at the Fairgrounds
From the county fair to car shows, and horse racing at the oldest one-mile course in the nation, the Alameda County Fairgrounds are home to many eye-catching and entertaining events, such as:
Alameda County Fair
Originating in 1850 in Oakland, the fair moved to the fairgrounds in 1912 and has been running consecutively here ever since. Each year in June and July, the fair brings yummy food, refreshing drinks, live music and other entertainment, a kid’s park, fireworks and more to fair-goers. Racing at the racetrack coincides with the fair, so make a few days of it for well-rounded entertainment.
Goodguys Car Shows
Twice a year, the Goodguys come to the Alameda County Fairgrounds bringing a great car show to the masses. In lieu of a traditional car show, it is more of a celebration kicking off summer or fall. From classic cars to hot rods, muscle cars and trucks, there are vendors, refreshments and more.
Scottish Highland Gathering and Games
The Scottish Highland Games are an annual event dating back to the 1860′s. Some even say it is the biggest Scottish gathering in all of North America. The games, held over Labor Day weekend, feature traditional Scottish live music, dancing, battles and more. The games are all about Scottish culture, games and competition.
Pirates of Emerson Haunted Theme Park
To kickoff the Halloween festivities, the fairgrounds hosts the Pirates of Emerson Haunted Theme Park each year. The park includes eight attractions for the price of one entry. The scary attractions are Scareaton, Fractured Fairytales, Arachno, Dark Realm, Pirates of Emerson, Mental Maze, Bumpkin Watch and the Corn Walk. See what draws so many people each year!
Horse Races at Pleasanton Fairgrounds Racetrack
This historic, one-mile racetrack has races for Thoroughbreds, Quarter horses and Arabians throughout the year. A number of important races are held here, such as the California Wine Stakes, Alamedan Handicap and many more.
